In Alphabetical order: Catfish:  Hitting bait at night on the sandy beach near camp where the boat is parked. Crappie:  These schooling fish are a bit lost without brush.  While males are making nests in the dirty water at the backs of canyons and coves, many Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing 4-25 through 27, 2013

If a picture says 1000 words….the following will definitely give you the “scoop” of what is happening at Lake Powell.  Fishing remains at it’s tops in years both conventional and fly fishing.  It will remain that way indefinitely this summer.  My customers are having 15-20 fish catches on half day and 30-40- fish on a full day charter individually.  Bass are on the beds and water temperatures are running 62 degrees.  Customers have asked about Walleye, their occasional at best this year but can Read More +

Lake Elevation: 3597 Water Temperature 53-60 F It’s a typical year as bass move on nest sites as the water warms and then pull off as water cools. If the home cove is protected from wind it stays warm and bass spawn.  If strong wind cools water then spawning is delayed until the next calm period. The big selling point for coming sooner rather than later to fish for spawning bass is lake level. The lake is stabilizing, ready to start filling. Sight fishing is Read More +

Photo:Josh, Matt, Mike and Luke Gross found hot and heavy striper fishing in Navajo Canyon.with many multiple hook-ups as they fished bait for hungry stripers along the canyon walls. Striper action remains hot as bass move into  the shallows to spawn. Its a great time to be at Lake Powell.   Lake Powell Fish Report – April 17, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3597 Water Temperature 53-63 F By: Wayne Gustaveson As this report is written the wind is howling keeping water temperature down in Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report 4-14-13

Fishing remains good this past weekend. Bigger stripers are on the feed and you can graph schools of bait fish close by when stripers are fat.  5-6 lb fish are the norm and fly fishing over chum is promising in the Main Channel on Lake Powell holding fish on points and shelves bordering deep water 300-400 ft. plus. Key to getting the bigger fish is to keep one line down below the feeding fish school for that possible “big strike for a 10lb plus”.    Wind will be Read More +

Fishing is excellent right especially Fly Fishing.  We are catching a lot of stripers with chartreuse clausers and Bill’s Secret “Fly”….stripers are an ample size.  Fishing anchovies is working extremely good now.  I typically fish away from other customers to get you on to bigger and fatter fish and away from the crowds. Come see us!   Capt. Bill

They caught six different species of fish and thoroughly enjoyed the variety and unique experience provided by Lake Powell in the springtime. Lake Powell Fish Report April 10, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3598 Water Temperature 53-63 F By: Wayne Gustaveson Stripers are still running along the canyon walls in the southern lake.  They spilled into the main channel 3 weeks ago and have been eager to Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report 4-4-13

Stripers on the Fly or on bait are in the Zone for Lake Powell Fishing right now.  There are 1,000’s of fish at the dam and intake for the bait angler, but fish are marginal weight wise.  For fatter fish try chumming in the 60′ range toward the backs of most Canyons. Last Chance and Rock Creek are Top Spots without pressure…Water will be holding at 60 degrees this coming week so striped bass on Lake Powell will be looking to nest around short Read More +

Lake Powell Fish Report – March 27, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3599 Water Temperature 51-55 F By: Wayne Gustaveson Photo: Brian Myers, Colorado angler, caught some good largemouth bass in the northern lake on slow rolling spinner baits.  Stripers are going crazy for bait at Glen Canyon Dam while other species are being steadily caught in 20 feet of water in the northern lake.   Striped bass near Wahweap and Antelope Marinas have made the move from the back of  canyons, where they spent the last Read More +
