Lake Powell Fishing Report August 5, 2012

Lake Powell Elevation:  3967.81 Water Temps:  85 The top water action is getting better and better daily and so is the chumming of anchovies.  This is going to be the best Fall Fishing in years for fish averaging 3-8 lbs. This is due to the increase in bait buildup over the last decade and the introduction gizzard shad.   Plus the opportunity for sume lunker encounters Lake Wide.  Best Canyon for fishing I recommend Last Chance and Navajo. My last trip this past week with 5 Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report July 4, 2012

Lake Powell Elevation:   3633.30 Water Temp – 74 degrees  in the early a.m. by 80 degrees  by noon Monsoons:  A chance of storms will be in and out starting today.  Typically your storms will not produce till the afternoon.  If you are houseboating on Lake Powell,   have your anchors set 3.5 feet down and wide enough to let the boat shift a bit.  A good set anchor will keep you from having issues during any wind with the storms. Water Elevation:  3635.89 Water Temps:  80+   I have been fishing many early a.m. this past week.  I have been catching Walleye still which is a nice treat so late in the season.  Water tempseratures are 80+ by mid morning.  Expect a mix bag  of fish early hours trolling and drop shotting in 15-25′ of water on Lake Powell. Troll a deep shad diver at 20′ and a drop shot at submerged structures in same depth zone. Capt. Bill

Wayne’s Words Lake Powell Fishing Report 6-06-12

My weekly fishing trip was one day after a full moon and a big windstorm.  I wasn’t expecting much but was pleased to find cooperative smallmouth and striped bass. Stripers were feeding on plankton near the surface at the edge of the brush line.   They seemed to be slightly deeper than last week with most hits coming where bottom depth was 25-30 feet. Every time we trolled into shallower water, pesky smallmouth would whack our Lucky Craft Bevy Shad lures. In 2 hours of Read More +

Wayne’s Words May 29, 2012 – Slurps Start

Lake Powell Fish Report – May 29, 2012 Lake Elevation: 3636 Water Temperature 63-70 Striped bass fishing is now perking up.  The spawn is over allowing adult stripers to focus on finding food instead of spawning.   “Food” is quite small as shad, their primary forage item, are less than an inch long.  These tiny shad live very near the surface so stripers skim the surface to effectively feed on their tiny prey.  These surface feeding (slurps) events can be readily observed by anglers.  Read More +

Photo caption: Brian Myers from Colorado took some friends fishing in Good Hope Bay. They found fishing to be great for smallmouth bass. Stripers are spawning this week and only being caught at night. That will change as boils are predicted to begin in June.   Lake Powell Fish Report May 22 2012 Lake Elevation: 3636 Water Temperature 70-75 F By: Wayne Gustaveson   We did a tour of the recent hot spots and found fish holding in the same spots as last week. Lake Powell Fishing Report 5-15-12

Photo:  Ryan Mosley and Lowell Marthe, Dutch John UT, caught a mixed bag of species while fishing Lake Powell.  Here they hold stripers and walleye but they also caught crappie and smallmouth in abundance. It has been that kind of year at the lake and fishing continues to be excellent for all species.  In addition, striper fishing has just improved dramatically this past week.   Lake Powell Fish Report – May 15, 2012 Lake Elevation: 3636 Water Temperature 65-72 F By: Wayne Gustaveson   Forgive Read More +

Lake Powell May 13, 2012

Lake Powell has produced some of the best Walleye Fishing this year I have ever seen.  All my guests have been catching and the size are 3+ lbs.  Water temps have reach 72 degrees which is now beginning to show Stripers on the top “slurping”.  This is what we have been waiting for.   Judy was as the Shad Rally and one of the “participants” caught 101 stripers on his boat.  Lots of smallmouth are still being caught.  Stripers are gaining size and weight and Read More +
