Lake Powell Fishing 4-12-13

Fishing is excellent right especially Fly Fishing.  We are catching a lot of stripers with chartreuse clausers and Bill’s Secret “Fly”….stripers are an ample size.  Fishing anchovies is working extremely good now.  I typically fish away from other customers to get you on to bigger and fatter fish and away from the crowds. Come see us!   Capt. Bill

Stripers on the Fly or on bait are in the Zone for Lake Powell Fishing right now.  There are 1,000’s of fish at the dam and intake for the bait angler, but fish are marginal weight wise.  For fatter fish try chumming in the 60′ range toward the backs of most Canyons. Last Chance and Rock Creek are Top Spots without pressure…Water will be holding at 60 degrees this coming week so striped bass on Lake Powell will be looking to nest around short Read More +

Lake Powell is celebrating its 50th birthday and the timing for anglers couldn’t be better.  Lake Powell fishing expert and fish biologist Wayne Gustaveson says the spring and summer of 2013 are shaping up to make for a banner year for catchers and consumers of Bass, Stripers, and Walleye. Gustaveson says the combination of a high water year at Lake Powell in 2011, followed by a relatively low level year with plenty of shad has set the stage for ample catches from both vessel and Read More +

Lake Powell Fish Report – March 7, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3600 Water Temperature 46-52 F By: Wayne Gustaveson http://www.wayneswords.com Declining lake level will have a huge impact on spring fishing.  Current lake level is now at the projected low of 3600 and it will likely decline another foot before spring runoff reverses the lake level.  That is great news for boaters using the southern lake as it will allow the construction crew currently deepening the Castle Rock Cut to remove one more foot of soil Read More +

Fishing in Chains at Lake Powell Predicted to be ‘Best in a Decade’ Anglers probably won’t want to ‘hold the anchovies’ when casting from the Chains Recreation Area this spring, unless it’s just for a moment before tossing them in the water as chum.  Utah Division of Wildlife biologist and Lake Powell fishing expert Wayne Gustaveson is predicting the most stellar fishing in the Chains Area near Glen Canyon Dam and Wahweap in over a decade.  Gustaveson says Lake Powell’s relatively low level means formerly Read More +
