Lake Powell Fishing Report 8-26-2024 by Capt. Bill McBurney

Our Fall Get Ready Report

Dear Anglers,

This summer was spent getting my knee that was done in December cleaned out of scar tissue so my time on Lake Powell was not possible.  I am now recovered and will be back in business beginning September.  I am currently taking bookings.  This year, I am scaling back and only offering 2-3 anglers maximum only and 1/2 days or 6 hours only. My rates are the same:  1-2 Anglers $575.00 and additional $50 and 6 hours – $675.00 1-2 anglers and $50 for an additional.

Longer August nights start the cooling process.  This means early morning striper slurps and boils have to be hunted for in the hunt for boils.  scout for long shad lines, birds and bait fish schools.  Pay attention to warming moon phases and the darkest nights you to want to fish the evening fish frequented that morning.  I use a binoculars and the rising sun to see splashes to feeding stripers sometime up to a mile away.

As Fall approaches, top water and fly fishing just gets better and better right through November.  Use trollers and jiggers for Fall and Winter and if there are warm days pop up, fly fish the flats shallow or you can go deep to jig.  Our Lake has gone up significantly with the great run off.  The “cut” was only only open for a short time like 1 month and then closed again.  Maybe next year it will open longer.  I may be moored again at Antelope Point Marina again for convenience for my guests.  If you RV it?  Antelope Point Marina great place to put the rig for sure. Will keep you posted on launch area.

We hope to see you up here at Lake Powell and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Tight lines ,

Capt. Bill
