Lake Powell Fish Report – May 8, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3596 Water Temperature 59-65 F By: Wayne Gustaveson One week after the spring fishing peak and fishing is still good. A lingering cold front has slowed fishing for bass slightly but stripers continue to eat bait in the southern lake. One disturbing note is that lake level is still going down making it uncertain that the lake will raise much during the normal runoff period. There is still time but the runoff is slow Read More +

Fishing remains good this past weekend. Bigger stripers are on the feed and you can graph schools of bait fish close by when stripers are fat. 5-6 lb fish are the norm and fly fishing over chum is promising in the Main Channel on Lake Powell holding fish on points and shelves bordering deep water 300-400 ft. plus. Key to getting the bigger fish is to keep one line down below the feeding fish school for that possible “big strike for a 10lb plus”. Wind will be Read More +

Lake Powell is celebrating its 50th birthday and the timing for anglers couldn’t be better. Lake Powell fishing expert and fish biologist Wayne Gustaveson says the spring and summer of 2013 are shaping up to make for a banner year for catchers and consumers of Bass, Stripers, and Walleye. Gustaveson says the combination of a high water year at Lake Powell in 2011, followed by a relatively low level year with plenty of shad has set the stage for ample catches from both vessel and Read More +

Was sent today from Wayne today Big Striper Caught at Bullfrog. On January 20, 2013 a lucky 13-year-old from Denver CO was trolling with leaded line near Forgotten Canyon just upstream from Bullfrog Marina. My Catch – 7 of the 15 and nothing under 5 lbs. The Juvenile stripers on top at Lake Powell. Early morning and evenings . The 5+ pounders are below 20-40′ and the bigger ones yet somewhere in the mix of the bigger fish. Each day brings a different approach to things especially with water temps, cloud cover, wind and sun as everything effects the feeding pattern. There has to be food for these elements to work where the anglers and fish become one. For the latest video Read More +
