Lake Powell April Fishing Tip April 4, 2015
Dear Anglers, My tip for fly fishing (#flyfishing) stripers in back of canyons at Lake Powell. I like a fast 7-8 wt. rod wit a fast sink 15′ sink tip, 4′ leader and 15 lb. tippet and 3″ crawfish flies with chartreuse and white clauser flies. If the stripers are feeding, you want a fast retrieval and a tarpon set (scissor set) and watch that rod tip when your landing so not to high stick the rod tip. Tight lines, Capt. Bill

Photo caption: While fishing for stripers in Warm Creek my lure ticked the bottom momentarily. It was long enough for a small quagga mussel to snap shut on the hook. This is my first shell-hooked catch of a live mussel. If a mussel can bite a rattletrap there is no reason that it could not catch an anchor rope,ski rope or any other object under the water. Stripers are selecting threadfin shad in the main channel and saving gizzard shad next to shore until later in the year.
