Lake Powell Fishing Report by Wayne Gusatveson

Photo caption: Brian Myers found bass fishing good for his angling group in Good Hope Bay. Here is a light colored largemouth bass which looks much like a smallmouth bass. These fish species are currently hard to tell apart when they come from murky water. Bass fishing is good now while stripers are being more selective. This is a picture also of the “graph” to illustrate striper feeding. Lake Powell Fishing Report October 17, 2014 Lake Elevation: 3606 Water Temperature 70-74 F By: Wayne Read More +

Photo Caption:  Carl Lind, Wittmann AZ, caught this 3-pound striped bass in Last Chance Bay trolling a shad rap.  Striper fishing is much better this week as stripers are chasing shad to the surface each morning and evening.  Stripers are FAT after gorging on a bumper crop of shad. They are very strong fighters and are willing to hit surface lures. August 27, 2014 Lake Elevation: 3606 Water Temperature 77-80 F Reports of stripers feeding on the surface really had me invigorated this morning.  We Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report July 23, 2014 Lake Elevation: 3608 Water Temperature 77-85 F Photo: Jaxson Jones, Phoenix AZ, helped his dad manhandle this big striper caught trolling in Padre Bay. Lake Powell Fishing Report by Capt. Bill McBurney & Wayne Gustaveson (Wayne’s Words)

The fishing window if on the right spot is 5 a.m. till 8:30 a.m. with this heat we are having. It can be longer if a cloudy monsoon morning day. September and October are shaping up for some big fish 2-3 lbs on the “fly rod” as well as conventional (use storm deep divers on the troll). Trolling is the best producer right now early for juvenile stripers.  Capt. Bill Jeannie from Austin, TX  a great 3days with these customers  July 16, 2014 Lake Elevation: Read More +

Photo caption:  Dan Kennedy, Spanish Fork UT, found good crappie fishing near Bullfrog by searching the floating tumbleweeds in the backs of canyons.  Brush is out of the water until the lake comes up more so for now look for floating cover to find both crappie and largemouth bass. Finding fish in Lake Powell is always an incredible adventure. Lake Elevation: 3578 Water Temperature 59-69 F May is here and water temperature is in the 60s which means spring fishing is at its best.  Cold Read More +
