Photo: Vikki Berrera, Phoenix AZ, displays a nice walleye caught near Moki Canyon in April. Walleye fishing will get even better in May Tip the plastic jig with a live worm to target walleye Lake Elevation: 3577 Water Temperature 56-60 F Great News! The cold wind that has been blowing non-stop is going to soon be gone. Lake temperature has dropped back down to 56 degrees in the mornings but it rises to 60 by evening. That has slowed bass and crappie spawning. Looks like Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report Lake Elevation: 3574 Water Temperature 52-60 F Lake level remains fairly constant with a slight drop to 3574 MSL. We hope spring runoff holds off for another 3 weeks as the Castle Rock Cut deepening project will continue until the last week of April. The best news is that the Cut will be deepened down to 3575 MSL meaning that the lake only has to come up 5 feet or so from the present level to allow boats to take the Read More +

Photo: Bill McBurney reported catching an 19 pound striped bass while fly fishing in the southern lake this past week. Striped bass are coming shallower in warming water making them easier to catch by trolling and casting. Lake Powell Fishing Report March 26, 2014 Lake Elevation: 3575 Water Temperature 52-60 F The weather is warming but the changes are subtle. On calm warm days surface temperature spikes from 50 up to 60 degrees or higher. The cold winter water is still below so warm Read More +

Lake Powell Elevation: 3581.07 Dear Anglers, Stripers have continued to feed so far for the mild winter we are having. You are not going to pinpoint the activity though on a regular basis. Schools that bunch up are more aggressive but they will break apart sometime around a slight dip in water temperatures only to regrow again later. Fly Fishing for Winter Schoolies with a 5-6 wt. rod will thrill you and by April the bigger fish and rods come into play. Conventional: Trolling a Read More +

Capt. Bill 6-23-13 Dear Anglers, Summer is hot and so is the “bite”! New on the Fly fishing this past week in 78 degree water is producing fat stripers on the long range day trip. The lower water run off has kept the bait fish to lightly stained to heavy from mid Lake to Bullfrog. I am using “chartreuse clausers” and “Bill’s Rooster Wooster on a full sin tip powered by a 7-8 wt rods. Chum was only need on a few schools plus top Read More +
Lake Powell Fishing Report 4-14-13
Fishing remains good this past weekend. Bigger stripers are on the feed and you can graph schools of bait fish close by when stripers are fat. 5-6 lb fish are the norm and fly fishing over chum is promising in the Main Channel on Lake Powell holding fish on points and shelves bordering deep water 300-400 ft. plus. Key to getting the bigger fish is to keep one line down below the feeding fish school for that possible “big strike for a 10lb plus”. Wind will be Read More +

Fishing is excellent right especially Fly Fishing. We are catching a lot of stripers with chartreuse clausers and Bill’s Secret “Fly”….stripers are an ample size. Fishing anchovies is working extremely good now. I typically fish away from other customers to get you on to bigger and fatter fish and away from the crowds. Come see us! Capt. Bill

Lake Powell Fish Report – March 7, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3600 Water Temperature 46-52 F By: Wayne Gustaveson http://www.wayneswords.com Declining lake level will have a huge impact on spring fishing. Current lake level is now at the projected low of 3600 and it will likely decline another foot before spring runoff reverses the lake level. That is great news for boaters using the southern lake as it will allow the construction crew currently deepening the Castle Rock Cut to remove one more foot of soil Read More +
